Community Programs

Music Therapy at Broad Street Ministry

Every Monday, we hold a music therapy session with two music therapists from Temple University and two musicians from the Philadelphia Orchestra at Broad Street Ministry. The music therapists host a workshop that includes guided musical improvisation and discussions which require no prior musical knowledge. Walk-ins are welcome, and anyone can join at any point of the session.

One of the main goals of these sessions is to create a safe space for all sections of our community. Participants create sounds and melodies that stay with them for the rest of the week and ease their days. More importantly, this environment brings everyone together through music. The background or the status of the individual doesn't matter; during the workshop, everyone is equal.

Neighborhood Concerts

Free neighborhood concerts bring ensembles of varying sizes to communities where the Orchestra does not frequently perform. These free concerts in parks, churches, museums, and community centers bring neighbors together to experience the Fabulous Philadelphians in familiar, local venues.

Our City, Your Orchestra

The Philadelphia Orchestra is proud to present Our City, Your Orchestra, a series of free digital concerts performed by small ensembles, recorded without audiences at Black-owned businesses and iconic cultural locations throughout the region.

Penn’s Landing

Penn’s Landing, on the Delaware River Waterfront, provides a beautiful outdoor amphitheater where the Orchestra performs free summer concerts.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Tribute Concert

The Philadelphia Orchestra honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through an annual free community concert, combining music traditions of African-American culture with the traditions of Western classical music. The MLK Tribute Concert pays tribute to Dr. King’s vision of equality and his belief that music holds the power of change.

PlayINs

Come sit side-by-side with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra at one of the popular PlayIN events being presented this season. Musicians of all ages across a range of abilities are invited to join the Fabulous Philadelphians onstage—Philly style!—in a shared music-making event that will excite and inspire.
