Operations/Personnel Internship

The Philadelphia Orchestra Association is seeking a bright and motivated person for a university internship opportunity in our Operations/Personnel department.  The POA values all our intern students and we will go the extra mile to make sure you receive a learning experience that fits your career goals.  Our intern students should be ready and eager to learn new skills and bring with them maturity, discretion, and flexibility.

What you will learn:

  • The basics of planning, management, and execution of orchestra concerts for digital distribution
  • The basics of project management and research work
  • Learning the day-to-day operations in a non-profit arts organization

What you will do:

  • Conduct research on orchestra audition and fellowship practices as it relates to strengthening inclusion, diversity, equity, and access strategies
  • Assist operations and personnel with preparations for Digital Stage and other ancillary performances and activities
  • Provide critical support for running international and substitute auditions
  • Assist with foreign and domestic tour preparations and travel arrangements, and summer residencies
  • Draft operations and personnel memos, letter, correspondence, and other communications
  • Generate various departmental reports for review and distribution
  • Assist in drafting personnel rosters
  • Assist in weekly POA operations and personnel meetings by taking notes and updating documents
  • Update instrument insurance records
  • Shadow operations and personnel staff
  • Provide administrative support as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

What we require:

  1. Completion of 2 years of college, pursuing a related BA/BS degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Good communication skills, highly organized, detail-focused, and customer service oriented.    
  3. Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, and work with highly confidential information.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research with a strong ability to learn and grasp new computer programs quickly.  
  5. Knowledge of orchestral repertoire and ability to read music is an asset.
  6. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the candidate must have the ability to work from home.
