.@philaorchestra @KimmelCenter & @TallerPR collect $34,500+ for #HurricaneMaria relief efforts during recent #WestSideStory performances

(Philadelphia, October 18, 2017)—The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and Taller Puertorriqueño have announced the results of the fundraiser for Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico held during recent performances of West Side Story in Concert by The Philadelphia Orchestra. In total, $34,535.10 were raised during the four performances, 100% of which will be distributed through Unidos PA'PR for relief and recovery efforts in Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas.

“The generosity demonstrated by The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Kimmel Center to collaborate with Taller Puertorriqueño and with Unidos PA’PR went beyond all our expectations,” said Carmen Febo-San Miguel, executive director of Taller Puertorriqueño. “From all of the efforts to make the collaboration known by Orchestra patrons and the words of Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin about the poignancy and relevance of West Side Storytoday, to the incredible response from volunteers and––most importantly––the generosity of donations, this collaboration exemplifies that we are best when our humanity guides our actions. These actions represent the best antidote to decrease the pain and suffering of 3.5 million Americans who are still lacking basic needs almost a month after this major disaster.”

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is extending this partnership through its next free Latin Music Series, La Noche, on November 20 when staff from Taller Puertorriqueño will be on-site to collect donations in person. Until that time, signs will be posted across The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Campus detailing other methods to donate including by text message (text “Donate” to 1.833.215.7277), online at www.elconcilio.net/donate, or by sending checks payable to “Concilio/UNIDOS PA’PR” to 141 East Hunting Park Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19124.
